Introduction to Planning and Lands
Course Description:
The Introduction to Planning and Lands course provides an overview of the theory and practice of community planning and land administration in Nunavut. This online course is open to those who are interested in gaining an introductory understanding of community planning and land administration, with an emphasis on the role of the municipal Planning and Lands Administrator (PLA).
Topics include the guiding territorial planning policies, community plans, zoning by-laws, land administration by-laws, survey plans, and land file management systems. By the end of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of community planning and land administration policies and procedures.
Prerequisites: None.

Lands Administration 1
Course Description:
The Lands Administration 1 course focuses on the acquisition and disposal of municipal land in Nunavut. Participants will learn about land administration by-laws, land acquisition and disposal procedures, land application processes, land leases, and lease administration. The online lectures and practical activities will help participants apply methods to acquire or dispose of land, process land applications, and prepare leases. By the end of the course, participants will have a strong understanding of the land acquisition and disposal procedures that apply to municipal land.

Community Planning
Course Description:
The Community Planning course takes a closer look at planning policies and procedures in Nunavut’s communities. This online course includes lectures, discussions, and activities on the topics of community plan and zoning by-law policies, by-law amendments, development permit applications, and land survey processes. By the end of the course, participants will be confident using their Community Plan and Zoning By-law to analyze and manage land development.
Prerequisites: None.

Practical Course in Planning and Lands Administration
Course Description:
The Practical Course provides participants with opportunities to work through real-life community planning and land administration scenarios set in the Nunavut context. The in-person course will guide participants through examples of everyday tasks of a municipal Planning and Lands Administrator (PLA). Activities include analyzing land applications and development permit applications, preparing leases, calculating lot prices, reviewing land surveys, and processing Community Plan and Zoning By-law amendments. By the end of the course, participants will be able to apply their community planning and land administration knowledge to a variety of real-life scenarios.

PALS: Community Planning and Lands Management System
Course Description:
PALS, which stands for Planning and Lands System, is a web application for managing community planning and land administration data, documents and workflows. It is also a Geographic Information System (GIS) for storing, managing, searching, and visualizing land parcel and building data in every community in Nunavut. The focus of this course will be the use of the Community Planning and Lands Management System. It is preferred that registrants be in their PLA position for a minimum of 1-2 years to take the course.
